In 2025, we are introducing four new books.
Publishing plan 2025

How Buildings Work

The second publication in the book series of Facility Management Journal will be published at the turn of April and May 2025 and will fill a gap in the market.
A collective of authors has prepared a publication concerning the activities of building technical management as a handbook for finding answers to the basic disciplines related to the daily operational routine of building operation. The book describes how to create operating cost budgets, how to implement CAFM systems, how to set preventive maintenance plans, etc. The monograph contains chapters on building and technical maintenance, with an emphasis on the issue of technical equipment in buildings and building environmental systems, dedicated technical equipment. It also describes the topic of occupational safety in connection with the operation of dedicated technical equipment, fire protection of modern buildings. Related topics such as ESG, energy management, and CAFM tools, which can effectively support the planning, management, and analysis of the efficiency of building operations, are not omitted either. The final section covers digitalization, IoT, AI, and laser scanning of buildings. The book is supplemented with examples of good practice and case studies of real buildings. The book is key supporting literature for preparing to obtain the professional qualification Facility Manager in the system of the National Qualifications Framework.
Who is the reader: architect, civil engineer, facility and property manager, informed layperson with an interest in the operation of modern buildings
More information: www.ifma.cz/kniha

Architect in Practice

The book Architect in Practice is an invaluable guide for everyone who wants to successfully run an architectural studio and work in the field long term.
It presents readers with a comprehensive picture of the architect’s profession – from education, through professional examinations, cooperation with developers and public administration, to ethical principles and global trends.
The book clearly describes how to effectively manage your own office, including choosing a legal form, creating a business plan, managing finances, and communicating with clients. It also includes modern tools such as digitization of administration, BIM, and CRM systems that simplify day-to-day operations.
The authors also address HR, from preparing CVs to conducting job interviews, and show how to optimize team work and how to properly use available technologies. The book is supplemented with case studies, software overviews, and professional examples that will become a valuable helper in the architect’s everyday practice. The book is complemented by the online academy Architektvpraxi.cz, where the authors share their know-how, templates and document samples, as well as procedures and instructions on how to run a successful architectural office. The academy is supplemented by regular podcasts and training for Academy members. The book and the Academy are created under the patronage and professional guidance of the Czech Chamber of Architects.
Who is the reader: architect, student of a professional school of architecture and construction
More information: www.architektvpraxi.cz

MINIMAL

The book presents several dozen architectural solutions that architects have designed to improve and achieve quality living in a small space.
Due to the ever-decreasing availability of home ownership, the area in which we will live is also shrinking, especially in large cities. The book reflects the latest procedures, knowledge, and solutions with which architects design apartments in rental and apartment buildings. By a small apartment we mean apartments with a floor area of up to 40 m2, and by architectural solutions we mean work with space, light, specific materials, and technologies, which we demonstrate on examples mostly from the Czech Republic. By the nature of their profession, an architect and an interior designer bring their clients individuality, originality, and above all a functional and ergonomic solution.
The book is divided into several functional sections: in addition to long interviews about contemporary housing and its parameters, we also look at aspects of contemporary rental housing with theorists, researchers, and sociologists.
In the second part of the book, the authors selected 60 solutions and procedures, presented by their authors: Czech and foreign architects. They show on specific apartments the work with materials, light, height, and width of the given space. Our new book is not a manual for DIY furnishing or apartment renovation. It is a manual on how to think “minimally”.
Who is the reader: layperson with an interest in housing, young family, architect, interior designer
More information: www.archizoom.cz/minimal

Come with me: walk through Prague

Walk through Prague in autumn 2025 we will publish volume 1 of the edition of the unique large series Come with Us. Richly illustrated books in the format 400 * 600 mm (in open form it will be a format of 800 * 600 mm!) guide curious children and their parents through various phenomena of the world around us. The cardboard book is supplemented by an interactive online website – a guide to modern architecture in Prague. More than 250 original illustrations bring closer the stories of Prague buildings of modern architecture. In the book we take children on a journey around the Dancing House, to the Žižkov Television Tower, and to the new pavilions of the Prague Zoo. We explain to them how modern architecture works and why bricks are sometimes replaced by concrete. Chapters of the book: Prague on land, Prague by water, Prague underground, Prague across bridges, Prague of the future. The guide to modern architecture “Come with Us” is a book that will change children’s view of the given phenomenon, in this case the modern architecture of Prague. We are preparing further parts of the edition. In terms of format, it will be the largest children’s book on the Czech market, and it will be packed in an interesting carrying box. The project will also be supplemented by a website with games and maps.

The Rohan Design District festival is coming with its second edition, subtitled Fragile World. From June 5 to 7, 2025, Rohanské nábřeží will become the epicenter of architecture and design, where professionals and the public will meet. The ambition is to create a respected European platform supporting creative dialogue and the building of new contacts in the field.

A successful first edition

The first edition of the festival confirmed that Prague truly needs such a platform. One of the highlights of the program was an inspiring lecture by architect Eva Jiřičná, who shared her vision of modern architecture with visitors. A guided tour of the new HolKa footbridge led by one of the co-authors of this structure, Petr Tej, also attracted extraordinary attention from the public and experts alike. “RDD proved to be an excellent platform connecting the community of architects and designers, while remaining open to the general public. This is exactly what we could see during the joint walks across Štvanická lávka, where professionals from the field met people who are simply interested in architecture,” Petr Tej evaluates the first edition. For example, leading Czech designers Vrtiška & Žák and Lucie Koldová actively took part in the program, as did the architectural studios QARTA Architektura, CMC ARCHITECTS, and Schindler Seko architekti, as well as major development groups such as Sekyra Group and Trigema. A different perspective on the location was offered by a joint run with David Luu, who introduced participants to the transformations of the city in motion.

Fragile World in the spotlight

Under the curatorial direction of architect and designer Jiří Pelcl, emeritus rector of Prague’s UMPRUM, a unique installation titled Fragile World will be created in the expansive atrium of Amazon Court. “Today, a lot is being said about the fragility of the world around us. Glass naturally reflects this theme – it is fragile, but when you know how to work with it, it surprises with its durability. That is why we chose glass for the main installation in Rohan,” explains Pelcl, recipient of the Czech Grand Design award and a member of the Hall of Fame of the Czech Design Academy. The installation will present the very best of contemporary Czech glassmaking. The program will also include a series of engaging lectures and expert discussions on the main stage in the atrium of Amazon Court, where leading figures from the fields of design and architecture will appear. The program will be further complemented by two stages – an indoor and an outdoor one. Festival visitors can also look forward to an open-air cinema in the garden of Bulthaup.

A platform for the community with an international reach

The first edition of RDD showed the power of connecting the world of design and architecture with the everyday life of the city. The festival creates space for mutual inspiration and dialogue. Thanks to this openness, it is possible to present architecture and design as a natural part of urban life and the development of Prague. For its second edition, the festival sets itself the ambitious goal of strengthening its international dimension and establishing itself as a significant event on the map of European design festivals.

Development of a promising location

“After last year’s success, when our festival was visited by more than a thousand people over three days, we are continuing. This year our association is focusing on the theme of a changing world. A world that is increasingly becoming a fragile place to live,” says Radek Váňa, journalist and promoter of design, who, together with other enthusiasts, founded the Rohan Design District association.
Rohanské nábřeží has been developing dynamically over the past twenty years and is becoming an important part of Prague’s cultural and business environment. Hundreds of new apartments are being built in the area, and a number of major Czech and international companies have their headquarters here. “Rohanské nábřeží is a location that is changing literally from day to day. Those of us who are actively operating here: selling, designing, building… want to show the energy and strength of what is happening in Rohan,” adds Lukáš Školoud, another of the association’s founders and CEO of the ELITE BATH+KITCHEN brand.

Program of the second edition

The festival will offer three days packed with expert lectures, specialized tours, and hands-on workshops. Visitors can look forward to:

An exhibition of contemporary Czech glass art

Meetings with leading Czech architects and designers

Discussions about the future of Rohanské nábřeží

Presentations of the latest trends in architecture and design

Interactive workshops and installationsTechnical information

Secondary schools in Prague are facing a shortage of places, and pressure on their capacities is growing every year. According to current Cermat data, the capital lacks capacity for new applicants. The architectural studio Upstructure has decided to respond to the problem and offers a concrete solution based on a data analysis of the area.
Demographic development and migration of residents to Prague and its surroundings are causing the current secondary school infrastructure to be unable to meet demand. Although Prague is recording a decline in birth rates, the effect of population relocation persists and increases pressure on educational facilities. If the current trend is to be maintained, capacity will need to be increased by more than twenty new secondary schools.

The Upstructure studio therefore carried out a multi-criteria analysis of the area, which identified 51 plots suitable for the construction of new schools – 21 on municipal or state land, the rest on private land. The results of the analysis take into account the zoning plan, property relations, and access to public transport. An interactive map with marked locations is publicly accessible.
Architects point out that construction can be accelerated by using modular building systems. These allow not only rapid implementation, but also the possible future conversion of the building to another use if demand for school capacity declines. Alongside construction, however, they emphasize the need for a systemic solution from public administration. Private schools, which have been increasing in number in recent years, can help only partially.

“We want to give the city tools that will make it possible to act without unnecessary delay. We are able to substantiate the answer to the question of whether Prague has anywhere to build new schools with concrete data,” say architects František Bosák, Pavel Paseka, and Martin Žatečka from the architectural studio Upstructure.
UPSTRUCTURE is an architectural office founded in 2021 by Pavel Paseka, Martin Žatečka, František Bosák, and Jolana Bosák Macháčková after their previous long-term collaboration. They build on many years of experience from their own practices and from working in leading Czech studios. They are based in Prague’s Holešovice district, where a fifteen-member, multidisciplinary team of architects, designers, and data specialists works on projects of all scales and typologies. “Our goal is to design meaningful buildings, public spaces, and large urban complexes with regard to context, scale, and sustainability,” they say.

The first comprehensive book on business in architecture on the Czech market is being published.

The publishing house ARCHIZOOM BOOKS is publishing the unique publication Architekt v praxi, which for the first time on the Czech market comprehensively maps all aspects of the successful operation of an architectural office. The book was prepared by architect Evžen Dub and publicist Radek Váňa, authors with more than twenty years of experience in the field.

Media kit for download

The publication Architekt v praxi presents the first comprehensive overview of everything that the work of an architect on the Czech market entails. The authors, with detailed knowledge of the environment, describe the practical aspects and professional skills that a successful architect must master – from establishing an office through day-to-day management to marketing and communication with clients.
„For a long time, we have felt the absence of a quality practical guide for architects that would cover all areas of business in this profession. Our book aims to fill this gap and provide colleagues with concrete tools for successful operation,” says co-author Radek Váňa.

Book contents

The 168-page book covers key areas:
• The profession and job description of an architect, education and qualifications
• Establishing and running an architectural office
• Business plan, administration and use of technologies
• Financial management and proper project management
• Communication with clients and coordination with other professions
• Marketing and PR in architecture

Architekt v praxi

The book is followed by the online platform Architekt v praxi (www.architektvpraxi.cz), which will offer a podcast of the same name with Czech architects, discussion forums and webinars. The academy will become a networking platform with industry content and access to professional tools.
„The online academy will enable continuous education and connection of experts from all over the Czech Republic. We want to create an active community that will share experience and address the current challenges of the profession,” adds architect Evžen Dub. The book will be launched on 8 September 2025 in Prague, and together with it the second, revised edition of the book Marketing a PR v architektuře, prepared two years ago by Radek Váňa, will also be published.

The oldest continuously published edition on contemporary Czech architecture is entering a new phase. The Yearbook Czech Architecture 2024—2025, which will be published in June 2026, will already be the 26th volume and for the first time it will be published by the publishing house ARCHIZOOM BOOKS. The editor of this volume has become the architect Jan Schindler from the studio Schindler Seko architekti.

A new phase after a quarter of a century

The Yearbook Czech Architecture has been published annually since 1999 and over a quarter of a century it has become a respected mirror of the domestic architectural culture. Each issue presents a carefully selected set of about 35 buildings from across the Czech Republic, supplemented by a thematic essay by the editor, an interview, and an overview of significant competitions and awards. The publication is bilingual (Czech-English) and contains hundreds of photographs, drawings, and diagrams.

Rotating editors

The curatorial model of the Yearbook is based on the fact that the editorial personality changes every year. Thanks to this, the publication offers diverse perspectives on contemporary architecture. Among the editors in the past were, among others, Ondřej Chybík, Zdeněk Fránek, Jakub Cigler, Pavla Melková, and Pavel Nasadil. The last jubilee 25th issue was prepared by architect Markéta Zdebská with an emphasis on the theme “Environment for People and the World”. The editor of the upcoming volume is architect Jan Schindler. “I am looking forward to winter visits to beautiful buildings by respected colleagues, architects and female architects. On the other hand, I have mixed feelings about the fact that we are limited by the number of buildings we can present in the yearbook,” adds Schindler.

Continuing the tradition in a new edition

Until now, the publisher has been the non-profit organization Prostor — architektura, interiér, design o.p.s., led by Dagmar Vernerová, who contributed to the creation and tradition of the Yearbook. Now this role is being taken over by the publishing house ARCHIZOOM BOOKS, which specializes in professional and popular publications about Czech architecture. “The Yearbook is not only an overview of the best buildings of the past year, but also a reflection of the values that shape architecture. From the post-revolution euphoria to today’s emphasis on sustainability and the quality of public space. I am glad that we can continue to develop this tradition,” says Radek Váňa, publisher of ARCHIZOOM BOOKS.

A call to architects: submit your projects

Authors can submit their projects to the Yearbook via the online form on the website www.rocenka.cz.
The submission deadline is 30 November 2025.
